MTV VMA 2010 Red Carpet: The Ladies

I missed the VMAs this year and I am quite upset with myself. Been out of the loop, which I have been saying over and over again, and I didn’t even know that it will be airing today. To think that I am still on holiday. I instead spent the day in bed.

The only thing that I really look forward to in these award shows are what the stars wore and their performances. There are a lot of them and I tell u, I am quite disappointed with most of them.

Then again, this is not the Grammy’s.

Nevertheless, I expected the same glitz and glamour and it seems to be missing this year for me. I would usually have at least people who wore insanely beautiful ensembles, now there are only two or three that I like.

Oh, and I will only be posting the photos of the celebs that I truly know and some I am a little bit familiar with. Don’t expect me to be quoting who wore who because frankly, I don’t want to make a mistake. Besides, even if they wore the most expensive outfit, let’s admit that that doesn’t guarantee u will look good.

I mean look at Dolly Parton!

So anyway, here goes (in no particular order)…

Here is Robyn who sang the hit “Dancing On My Own”. I believe she performed this single in the awards and I am surely hoping this is not what she wore for the performance. I sort of get this outfit but I am not at all thrilled. Colour combination is off. Boots doesn’t match the cat suit and it pains me to say that that jacket is just not working for me. I will let this one pass…I need to see what she wore for her performance  (if she ever did so).

Selena Gomez, one of Disney’s Teen Stars, wore this…this thing that looks like she borrowed from her friend who wore it to the prom. I think she is playing sweet and innocent card way to much, although I gotta say I can see a little but of showgirls/las vegas a little bit here. She is a pretty girl, too pretty sometimes, and I believe she could rock it up a bit. A little fauz mohawk maybe, some leather gloves and probably Pete Doherty for an escort. That should do the trick.

Here is Jane Lynch of Glee. It looks like she is taking her Hit TV Role to heart, except she mixed up her high school with a place where Keanu Reeves trained for the Matrix Trilogy. Plus, is the inside of that coat polka dot? Argh!!! I think she could’ve done without the coat, pants a little more high waist to give it a little “oomph”, bling and better shoes. She better shake her head a little bit and get her out of that “school teacher” mindset. Besides, she wore tracksuits in that show. Would be funny to see her wearing a tracksuit in out of space colour, long necklace, huge pendant and a silver teeth cap. :P

Ciara, as far as I know, always dresses well and this is not exception. She opted for the subdued colour and then just played it up a bit. Love the lacey top and just made it more interesting with the feathery bottom. She has the body and the aura to pull this off. I would probably change those shoes and pick something that would better match the dress. I can’t think of anything for now so all I can imagine on her foot is a toe ring.

Here is Snooki from Jersey Shore wearing a super bright off shoulder dress with a black lining on top. Honestly, I am afraid to say anything about her because she might answer my phone when my mum calls and tell her that I AM DEAD. Not that it would ever happen but not impossible. Honestly, the colours should be reversed here (black dress with bright lining on top) which would probably make her less chunky. Get rid of that wrist bling and get something a little thinner. Remove those prostitute earrings and get higher shoes. Throw in a gym membership somewhere in there.

That’s Nicki Minaj winning a different version of the “moonman” with Will.I.Am. This is what she wore in her performance which I thought was great. The outfit, for performance purposes, is fine. I sure hoe she changed into something else. Other than the distracting colour combination, the fit of her space suit was a little unflattering. I mean, is her ass really that big???

Eva Pigford in what looks like something PETA will throw eggs in her face for…or more appropriately, something off rack with the name CHER all over it.

Gabi Gregg, MTV’s Twitter Jockey, in this really…errr…I have no words for this. I kinda get it…tricking the eyes with the black lines on the side to make her bottom half look smaller, but I think she just looks disproportional with a very heavy looking upper half. Love the shoes, though.

Brenda Song in a very rocker chic outfit. Very age appropriate I believe. Not super wow but this is the VMA’s and this is just right. I think Selena Gomez should take pointers from her.

Now what the hell is this? Natalie Horler of Cascada wearing this monstrosity. The lines are supposed to distract us but should it distract us enough to unconsciousness? I am sure she has a nice figure but it is all just distorted. Bling bling on the right arm, on the left wrist, her clutch and her shoes, there is just too much going on. Top it with that Maxwell Sheffield-looking (The Nanny) hair streak, I guess she gave new meaning to “going all out”. Not a good thing.

Here is Shaun Robinson en route to a friend’s wedding as the bride’s maid.

Now let’s get back to the ones I actually know.

If there is any reason why Rapunzel was locked up in a high tower, it is probably because the townspeople thinks she is a hooker that’s into PVS and S&M, at least this is what Kesha‘s take on that fairytale. So when she showed up for the awards show, she was inspired to be her and voila…just to make it more realistic, she had scratches on her face and her arm.  Wonder where she hears her child stories from…

Katy Perry pulling a little bit of Li’l Kim here. I don’t know what is wrong with this dress. I cannot put my finger on it but if I do, I will have to wash my hands. Colour play is good but that skin tattoo-looking top is a little disconnected from the skirt. I think this would’ve worked better if she had the tattoo going for the whole dress or if she just didn’t wear anything at all.

Last and not least…

Lady Gaga in her Alexander McQueen outfit (at least that I know). To tell u honestly, I don’t really like this costume-y type of dressing. With that said, I think she is in a totally different category as the rest of the people I have included above. She is in her own world league and that’s all there is to it. I will say though that she made quite an entrance. In addition to what she looked like, she was accompanied by Americans who were discharged due to the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell rule (kindly correct me here if I am wrong).

And there u have it. I will work on posting something about the boys next time. :P

Had fun playing fashion police, btw.
